Greetings HES alumni and friends! Welcome to the Fontaine C. Piper Movement Analysis Laboratory (Piper Lab) website. We are extremely excited about this important initiative and are glad you have an interest in learning more about it. For years, many of you have shared your appreciation for the role the HES Program played in your personal and professional successes and many of you have indicated a desire to actively support the program as a way of saying “thanks.” This is your chance!
"I got your letter today about Dr. Piper's Lab. Sounds really great and I'd love to contribute. . . if it weren't for Dr. Piper and the HES department, I probably wouldn't be a doctor of physical therapy today - so I'm in! I owe you guys a lot! -- Lindsay Benson, DPT, Class of 2001
As you are likely aware,
Dr. Piper recently
retired after 34 years of service to Truman. During those
years, he held a number of positions at the University, but his
greatest impact was in the HES Program. He was a
great teacher, leader, and visionary and seeing his students succeed
was, and still is, his greatest satisfaction. His high expectations
and exacting standards were often difficult to reach, but in the
end, we all benefited from our individual efforts to meet those
standards. To honor Dr. Piper’s lasting contributions we,
along with the HES Alumni Council, are launching a three-year
campaign to create the
Fontaine C. Piper Movement Analysis Laboratory. True to
Dr. Piper’s academic and research interests, this lab will provide
HES students with state-of-the-art biomechanical, anatomical, and
motor control equipment. This equipment will enable our
students to conduct cutting-edge research and prepare them for
advanced study in important public health domains such as
Parkinson’s, diabetes and child obesity.
As we continue to push the
educational envelope and maintain our highly respected reputation
among employers and graduate schools, it is imperative to provide
laboratory technology that matches the quality of our curriculum and
students. However, we cannot do this alone. To
create
this wonderful learning resource we are counting on generous
contributions from alumni and friends of the program to raise the
$100,000 in resources needed to purchase equipment for the lab.
We know there is competition for your resources, but a contribution
of just $5 to $10 a month over a three-year period would result in a
total contribution of between $180 and $360! Think about
it….that is the equivalent of about three gallons of milk or a
single appetizer at your local restaurant to provide valuable
support to the HES program and its students and faculty.
We sincerely hope that as you reflect on your experiences in the program you will recognize the positive impact Dr. Piper and the HES program had on your life. We also request your support. Show your commitment to this important project by making a generous donation today!
Thank you again for taking time to learn more about the Fontaine C. Piper Movement Analysis Laboratory. We hope you will stay in contact with us. We, just as with Dr. Piper, are always excited to learn what is going on in your lives.
Sincerely,
The HES Faculty and Staff
