Departmental Honors

The Department of Health and Exercise Sciences recognizes majors who have significant records of achievement during their college career.  The Honors designation is reserved for those select students who demonstrate excellence in their academic scholarly achievements. 

Eligibility Requirements

Any Athletic Training, Health Science, or Exercise Science major who attains the following will receive Departmental Honors. Student must make application to the Health and Exercise Sciences Program Office, PB 334, during graduating semester.

  1. Major GPA of 3.5 or higher
  2. Overall GPA of 3.5 or higher
  3. Complete a Research Project and present at the Truman Student Research Conference, present at a professional conference, or publish a paper (a paper that has been submitted or accepted for publication would qualify)*.
  4. Obtain a passing score on the CHES (Health Science), BOC (Athletic Training), or ACSM's HFI (Exercise Science).   
  5. Receive concurrence from majority of HES Faculty.

*Present means that the individual was a major contributor to the research paper (assisted in the data collection, assisted in the data reduction and analysis, and assisted in preparation of manuscript, poster or oral presentation). A major contributor is one who participates meaningfully in all parts of the project, not a person who simply assisted with data collection. The faculty mentor is responsible for verifying level of participation.
