HES Lab Facilities

Students in the Health and Exercise Sciences Program at Truman have complete access to the equipment necessary for lab activities and research pursuits. While much of the equipment is portable, the primary locations for use are the labs located in Pershing Building.

  • The Human Anatomy Lab is utilized by all HES majors for completion of the actual cadaver lab component of BIOL 365 Human Anatomy.
  • The Motor Learning/Biomechanics Lab contains equipment for evaluating the neurological and mechanical bases of movement.
  • The Human Performance Lab contains equipment for evaluating the physiological bases of movement and for statistically analyzing the results of any data collection.
  • The Pershing and Kennels' athletic training rooms are utilized for health care for the University's student-athletes as well as providing a laboratory for clinical practice and active learning.

There are also several facilities available for activities related to athletic training. In addition, Health Science majors utilize the Human Performance Laboratory as well as the New Media Center and various computer software programs. Of course, all students have access to Pickler Memorial Library and to many computer labs on campus.

Health Science Resources

In addition to using the Human Performance Laboratory for such classes as Physiological Assessment and Research in Health Education, Health Science students use the New Media Center located in Pickler Memorial Library for Community Health and Methods for Health Educators courses. Multimedia instructional materials are used and created by students for health education presentations to both campus and community. Computer software for nutritional analysis, statistics, environmental health mapping, and epidemiological tracking are also important components of classroom instruction.
