Fontaine Piper, Ph.D.

Professor, Health & Exercise Sciences

During Dr. Piper's tenure at the university he has served in many roles. Some of these include head tennis coach, head swimming coach, and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. Formerly the Director of the Health & Exercise Sciences Program, he became the Division Head of Human Potential & Performance in July 2002. He continues to teach Senior Seminar in Exercise Science and Health Science, as well as a new on-line course in Medical Terminology.

Dr. Piper received his bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education and a specialist degree in educational administration from the former Northeast Missouri State University, his master's degree in Junior College Administration from Southern Illinois University, and his doctorate in Electromyographic Biomechanics and Anatomy from the University of Illinois.

Dr. Piper serves on many university committees as well as being highly active with the American National Red Cross where he served as the Chair of the Missouri State Service Council and with the National Swimming Pool Foundation as the national coordinator of instructor training. Dr. Piper is also a USA Triathlon Official and was named Midwest Official of the Year for 1996.
