Dr. Young has been a member of the Health and Exercise Science faculty at Truman State University since the fall of 2004.  She is currently an assistant professor in the Health Science area.  Dr. Young teaches the following courses:

HLTH 270 Consumer Health
HLTH 330 Community Nutrition for Special Populations
HLTH 349 Research Methods in Health Science
HLTH 362 Environmental Health
HLTH 440 Program Planning and Evaluation

Dr. Young’s courses emphasize a strong service-learning component so students can apply course content to the real world and help reduce unmet community and campus needs.  Students in her courses have taught self-care sessions to individuals in Kirksville and to Truman students, completed an 11-county Northeast Missouri rural health needs assessment, created numerous websites for local non-profit organizations, and conducted multiple trash clean-ups of local streams, streets, and city parks.  Dr. Young is also a co-advisor for the Student Public Health Association at Truman State University which received the 2006 Outstanding New Student Organization Award.

Personal Information:

Dr. Young is married to Frank Young.  She enjoys spending time with family and friends, working with her horses, swing, ballroom, and Latin dancing, hiking, swimming and body surfing, and growing flowers.
