What Do They Say?

Check out the following quotes from recent HES grads....

"I just wanted to reinforce how much I appreciate everything that you, and the Truman ES staff did in the past four years to prepare me for what I'm enduring right now. I'm speaking of both educational and non-educational issues when give my appreciation. I have been working for St. Luke's hospital for a few weeks now and let me tell you, you were right when you said that Truman would give me an extensive preparation for an ES position. I am a Fitness Specialist/Coordinator now and I love everything about it. I am going to start my masters at KU in the fall, and who knows where I'll go from there. "

--Justin Walter, Fall 2002 graduate, Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology pattern

"I think the most rewarding or exciting aspect of doing the research and presenting it was the impact the experience had on my acceptance into graduate school. For 4 years I think the HES students are told how unique our program is in that there are wonderful opportunities to develop, conduct, present, etc. research as undergraduates that many students at other universities don't have the same opportunity to do. Now that I've had the chance to look back at those research and other similar academic experiences, I've realized that they do indeed make a significant difference in what an undergrad brings to their graduate application and program."

--Brandonn Harris, Fall 2002 graduate, Exercise Science/Psycho-Social pattern

"I started my first professional year in physical therapy at Mizzou beginning this past summer. I made it through anatomy, which was a pretty intense 8 week course, working with the cadavers most of the day. We actually had to dissect them, but it was a good learning experience. I made it through last semester fine, I'm finding that this year there is some overlap with the classes I had a Truman. I didn't have to take a kinesiology course last semester, since I had biomechanics from Truman."

--Monica Lehmann, Spring 2002 graduate, Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy pattern

"I have recently been employed by Creighton University as a faculty member with the Department of Physical Therapy. One of my responsibilities is to be in charge of clinical and community physical therapy clinics for two American Indian reservations in northeast Nebraska. Thus, I would like to extend an invitation to any Truman pre-PT student who would like to complete observation hours. It is a very unique setting where the student would learn a lot about rural health care, American Indian cultures, being part of an interdisciplinary team, community physical therapy, clinical physical therapy, grant writing, grant teams, and teaching. Housing can be arranged, and stipends may be available. Truman's HES program provided me with a great foundation to go onto professional school, and I want to be able to give back through at least offering pre-PT students this opportunity."
