Welcome HES Alumni and Friends!

You're part of the family... whether you are a recent grad, a friend or relative of an alumnus, or you've been supporting our program for years and just haven't been back to visit in awhile, we would like to invite you to take a look at the exciting things happening in the HES Program.

First Things First...

If you are an HES alumnus, we'd love to hear about YOU and what you've been doing since you've graduated from our program. Would you spare a few minutes and fill out our graduate survey? Then come on back and learn about how you can continue your support of a department dedicated to providing multiple opportunities for student growth.

Why Give Back?

For several decades, the HES Program has played an important role in helping many students reach their professional and personal goals. Over that same time, the program has grown considerably in the number of majors, curricular development, and co-curricular opportunities.  The Department of Health and Exercise Sciences has received national attention for the quality of their programs. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for our program to achieve this high standard especially in these challenging economic times. Thus, your support, in whatever form, is particularly critical. Maybe you would like to say thank you to a particular instructor who made a significant impact in your life or perhaps you simply want to express your appreciation for the collective efforts of all the HES faculty and staff. Whatever your reason, please know that your contributions, however big or small, are deeply appreciated and are crucial to our continued success.

Ways To Contribute

Many parents, alumni, and friends of the HES Program have fond recollections of their time spent in Kirksville and many inquire as to how they can give back to the program. There are several opportunities for you to assist the HES program in fulfilling its mission and continuing its prominence as one of the premiere undergraduate programs in the nation. Interested persons can serve as field experience supervisors, assist in student recruitment in their local communities, visit with HES students regarding career decisions and opportunities, or provide financial support for any one of several student-centered initiatives. If you are interested in participating in any of these opportunities or would like more information about how you can give back to the HES Program, please contact the HES office at (660) 785-4456 or email us at hes@truman.edu. For further information regarding opportunities for financial support, please fill out our giving survey. Be sure to sign up to receive our latest newsletter!

The Funds

Health and Exercise Sciences
Development Fund

The HES Development Fund is a very important resource that provides financial support for a variety of educational needs. Past contributions to this fund have facilitated the purchase of educational and statistical software, laboratory equipment, and other important educational tools that are not part of the normal operating budget. A current pressing need for the HES Program is a new electrocardiogram (EKG) machine. An EKG machine is critical to helping students understand how the heart responds to exercise-induced stress and it is one of the cornerstones of the Human Potential and Performance Laboratory. Current and future contributions to the HES Development Fund will help the HES Program purchase this important educational resource.

Cogan Student
Research Fund

The Cogan Student Research Fund is a relatively new scholarship that has resulted from the merging of the Max Cogan Award and the HES Student Research Fund. This scholarship helps students offset up to 90% of travel expenses associated with presenting their research at adjudicated conferences, not to exceed $200 (per student per conference). The goal is to provide all HES students with the opportunity to gain the professional and personal experiences of presenting their research. All HES students who have had their research accepted at national, regional, or state conferences are eligible for this scholarship.
